This song is saying that we can be whatever we want to be, by saying "I am the man in the mirror" the singer means that he is himself and he can be whatever he wants to be. When they say the thing about empty glasses filling each other he means if you put someone down, it's like making them an empty glass and they cant make others feel better when they already feel bad about themselves. Therefore creating a chain of hate. They want people to give compliments to fill another person's glass. That way they can "Fill another person's glass" by complimenting them. Therefore making the world a better place. This is just what I think though.
I think this song is about being in love with someone even though your head tells you they're going to hurt you in the end. Your heart wins over your head and eventually you get hurt, but in a strange way people enjoy the pain because at least they feel something.
When I heard this song, I believed it to be about two people misbehaving or acting dangerously together, like in "Russian Roulette",and on the outside appearing to not really care about the consequences. But they keep their "secrets" close to them about the situation. I think the "Alligator Blood" refers to the narrator being cold-blooded, either emotionless, lacking courage, or both. Because of this, he (or whoever) can't keep his secret hidden very well, "My alligator's blood is starting to show..." He really is feeling suicidal because he can't seem to live life "Show me how to live...help me find a way..." but he thinks in the end he can't be saved, so he tells his friend to "Leave before it's too late.." but there is still that doubt of whether his friend can make it: "Tell me who will make it out alive." So basically, they spiralled out of control. That is my take on the song.
The first time i heard it and looking at the lyrics now i think it has a romantic interpretation, namely: its a song about running away with someone you love and the fears of the gamble you are making by doing so. its also about running away before they stagnate and their love dies as with the end of the song.
The song ''It Was Written In Blood'' is about russian poet Sergei Aleksandrovich Esenin's suicide note which he wrote in his own blood. They pretty much copied the note word for word except for the "It was written in blood" part. Also, "Like roses we blossom then die. We fall apart" is theirs. Most of the rest is just his suicide note with some repeated lines.
I think this song is about a man who loves a woman that doesn't even know he exists but yet he still gives his heart to her in hopes that she will love him too.
My thoughts are just that Tyler is addressing how when we were young things were easier and we did not have the surprisingly huge amount of adult worries we do. His stress could be seen when he opens with insecurities about the music he is making. Then he addresses how when he is hit with nostalgia he is just reminded that between 'student loans' and 'tee houses' we would want the childhood life. The rocket ship part is just showing how we are constantly reminded that we have to be self sufficient above all else. And I think he uses the deep voice (I think it is supposed to be blurry face?) to help the lyrics really sink in.
